Lady Antebellum To Be Renamed “Lady Alanparsons”
There’s a recurring theme in the music business:
Artist makes song. Song has exceptional success. Washed up arist comes along and claims that successful song is ripped off from them even though first song may not have been quite as successful.
The latest episode consists of Lady Antebellum ripping off Alan Parsons’ chart-buster “Eye in the Sky.” I use the term “chart-buster” loosely as Parsons’ song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at #3.
The song in question “Need You Now.” Which, by the way, topped the Billboard Country chart, Adult Contemporary chart & Adult Pop chart at #1. Not to mention coming in at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 & the Billboard Pop chart…among winning countless other awards and high chart positions.
Lisa Marie Parsons, the apparent personal assistant to Alan Parsons, wrote a letter to the editor of Nashville Scene claiming the song was ripped off. There’s even a video mash-up to prove it:
Now, while I’m quite proud of Lady A’s success as they are from my hometown, I’m definitely not a fan of their music. Do the songs sound similar? Sure, the hooks do. The rest of the song? Not so much. Did they rip off the song? Doubtful. Should Parsons seek royalties anyway? Of course! After all, this IS America, and that is the American way.

If you listen to the hook the only simularity is the beginning of the hook. The end of the hook is DIFFERENT! Anybody could of made a simular segment not realizing some other song was closely matched. I doubt Lady A intentionally copied the song. I’m a fan of both artist and songs and to take it to court saying it’s the american way well just chock one off for the lawers lining their pockets again. Sorry Lawyers!
